This month's star is Rob. Without making any fuss nor seeking plaudits, Rob has transformed our website in the short time he has had access to it from a barren, single page to an impressive-looking site full of info and useful links. Take a look for yourselves.
Beyond the food
"The only thing needed for evil to prevail is for good people to do nothing," so some wise old stick once said. With this in mind, some of our number have demonstrated in recent months at Dudley zoo, Bobby Robert's circus, Dunstall Park racecourse, and Monmore Green, Hall Green & Coventry greyhound tracks, drawing attention to the often hidden cruelties involved. There was also Peace for Animals, co-organised by our very own Kerry and ably assisted by Cathy, which brought together people of different faiths to join together in prayer, meditation and a silent walk through Oxford for the suffering animals of the world. Getting the message across to the paying punters who are blissfully unaware of just what they are supporting is so important, so well done to all those who stood up to be counted and many thanks to those from outside the area who helped to make up the numbers. Recipe of the Month
Party Pizza Swirls
300g Puff Pastry (Jus Rol is vegan)
3 oz mushrooms, finely chopped
1 small red pepper, finely diced
1 small green pepper, finely diced
2 cloves garlic
1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
3 oz wholemeal breadcrumbs
1 tablespoons tomato puree
1 tablespoons tomato ketchup
1 teaspoon basil
1 teaspoon oregano
Salt and pepper
Fry the pepper, mushrooms and garlic in the oil until soft, just a minute or two. Mix in the breadcrumbs, puree, ketchup and herbs, season with salt and pepper and set aside.
Roll out the puff pastry to about 25cm x 32cm then spread the filling evenly over the top of it. Roll one long edge up like a swiss roll, seal the other long edge using water to help stop it from unfurling whilst cooking. Slice the roll into small discs (about 2 cm thick) and lay them flat on an oiled baking tray, reshape into rounds as required.
Bake for about 20 minutes at 170 degrees (fan oven 160 degrees), Gas Mark 3, until pastry is golden and risen.
You really do not need 'cheese' on these pizzas, they are tasty enough without but if you fancy you can mix in some Scheese or
